Privacy notice

What this site keeps about you, why, and how to have it changed or deleted. Short version: only what you send me, never sold, no tracking.

Who is responsible

This site belongs to Balekage Gael, a full-stack developer based in Kigali, Rwanda. I'm responsible for the personal data collected here. You can reach me through the contact page or on WhatsApp.

What I collect

When you send a message

The contact form sends me your name, your email address, an optional subject, your message, the language of the page and the date. Your IP address is used briefly, in memory, to stop spam (at most five messages per hour). It isn't stored.

When you leave a review

Reviews on blog posts include your name, your rating and your comment, with the date. They're shown publicly on the article once approved.

Your preferences

  • Your language (English or French), in a cookie named NEXT_LOCALE that lasts one year.
  • Your theme (light, dark or system) and your answer to this notice, in your browser's local storage.

These are essential to how the site works and never leave your browser, except the language cookie, which is sent to the site so pages open in your language.

Why I use it

  • To reply to your message.
  • To publish your review, if you leave one.
  • To remember your language and theme.
  • To protect the site from spam and abuse.

What I don't do

  • No analytics, no advertising and no tracking cookies.
  • I don't sell, rent or share your data.
  • I don't add you to a mailing list.

Where it's stored

Messages and reviews are stored in a PostgreSQL database hosted by Neon. The site runs on a server rented from Hostinger. Only I can see messages, through a password-protected admin area.

How long I keep it

I keep messages as long as needed to answer you, and delete them after 12 months at the latest. Reviews stay online until you ask me to remove them or I take them down.

Your rights

You can ask me at any time to see, correct or delete the data I hold about you. Send me a message through the contact page and I'll answer within 30 days.

Changes to this notice

If this notice changes, the date at the top changes too, and the site will ask for your agreement again.
